My best from from freshman year of high school found me on Facebook the other day. It was surprising and but exciting. We were so close in high school and tried so hard to stay in touch after she moved away but the inevitable happened: we grew apart. Eventually it got to the point where we both just stopped trying as hard and stopped talking. Nothing bad happened between us, it was just life. I'm so happy to hear that her life has been good and that she's happy. The biggest giggle from the re-connect is that she is getting married on my birthday this year! What's really funny is that for awhile I was considering the possibility of getting married in June and considered her birthday for the date.
Anyway, she turned me onto 43 Things, a different kind of social networking site where people can list goals for their lives and talk about how they completed them. Now, anyone who knows me well knows that I'm a sucker for lists so this site is totally up my alley and of course I had to start one. I started with just 10 goals, trying to keep it small and manageable. I'm terrible about procrastinating and I'm hoping that keeping things small will help me get things done. Anyone interested to should follow the trail and check out what the things I'm hoping to do in the relatively near future.

The hottest event around
Charlie and I went to SAAD (Southern Atlantian Archery Day) in North Carolina this weekend with some friends (yes we are SCA geeks). Charlie just finished making his first crossbow recently (and it's absolutely gorgeous!) so this was the first event where he was able to use it. He ended up scoring the second highest score of the day too. :) Later that evening just before dinner, everyone was sitting in court listening to the scores announcements when some people noticed a fairly large fire going in the woods nearby. Someone came over to say it was ok, it's a controlled fire, only to come back about 30 seconds later to tell anyone who had set up camp along that tree line to move their tents. Pretty much everyone jumped up to go see how bad it was (leading to the later jokes of starting fires as being the way to cut court short). Turns out someone thought to burn a huge pile of wood in the woods about 20 feet from the closest tent thinking the impending rain would keep it in check. He completely underestimated the size of the fire and overestimated the rain. It turned out ok once the fire department made it there but it was quite a show while it lasted.

Spring is finally here!
And with it comes Easter. Now I'm not religious but some friends and Mr. C's family wanted to celebrate Easter so we all got together to do dinner. Charlie made mashed potatoes and I made peach cobbler. It was my first time making a cobbler of any kind so you can imagine how happy I was that it turned out good. I ended up using a recipe that I got from my mom out of the book Cobblers, Crumbles, & Crisps and Other Old-Fashioned Fruit Desserts by Linda Zimmerman. The recipe sounded like it might be complicated but it ended up being really easy to make.
I started out making the dough for the cobbler topping.
Next came mixing the peaches with sugar and spices.
Finally I topped off the peaches with the dough. The recipe called for rolling the dough, but I found that no matter how long it stayed in the fridge, the dough was just too sticky to roll out. So instead, I plopped spoon-fulls of dough on top of the peaches until they were basically all covered. I think it turned out pretty good!
