Wedding Advent Calendar
My mom and her best friend decided that they wanted to put something together for me that would show that they love me and remind me of what to be excited about when I'm feeling stressed out about the wedding. What they come up with was a wedding advent calendar. It works like the advent calendars at Christmas where I get to open a gift every day for 24 days. The construction and shipping ended up being somewhat off so lucky me I got to open 7 gifts today but I'm going to be good and only open one a day from now on. It was made for me to open gifts Sept. 15th through Oct. 8th and though I could have just figured opened all the gifts up through the 25th today, I wanted to make it last a little longer so I only opened enough so that it should be one a day now til the day before we fly out to California for the wedding. I did take some pictures already and I'll be posting them as soon as I find my camera cord that Charlie has hidden from me. The sneaky guy used it to update our GPS and never gave it back.

Trip to San Diego and then some
So Charlie and I got back from San Diego a few days ago. Our friends were getting married on Sunday so we combined a trip to finalize wedding plans with going to their wedding in Northern Cali. The wedding was absolutely perfect. The bride and her mother did most of the decorations, which were cute and sophisticated, and you know they have a special place in my heart for being DIY. It was held in her mother's backyard with the ceremony being under the tree the groom proposed to her next to with the reception under the pear grove. They made fabric flower garlands that hung all around the yard and pinwheel centerpieces and embroidered signs for the refreshments. I absolutely loved it all and we both had such a great time so congrats to the happy couple!!
In other good news, the wedding coordinator at our site thinks we are really on top of things and doing a great job with all the planning. I was worried but she made me feel like I'm actually doing a decent job. Charlie just wonders how many couples aren't as on top of things as this a month before their weddings. She also suggested a photographer that is actually within our budget and does amazing photographs. We just need to get in touch with him and see if he has the date available still. After speaking with her, we went a couple blocks down the street and less than an hour later had the cake all sorted out. We just walked in and happened to be able to sit down with the owner/baker/chef who helped us put together what we're hoping will be a great cake and even put together a personalized sample plate for us. And what's even better is his shop never makes cakes from mixes. All their cakes are made completely from scratch and based on the samples, tastes amazing. It really was a great experience. Later that day we spoke with the florist and got all whole headache out of the way. I think I've finally settled on a hairstyle and just today I found and bought a new dress that is gorgeous and will work with the new maternity wedding. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend and is a bit more formal than I had planned on but it's gorgeous and I feel pretty in it with just a month left before the wedding, it's all good enough. It's not about the dress anyway, right? So it seems the wedding really is finally all coming together and won't be a total disaster. :) Wish me luck on getting all the favors done in time!

Down to the wire
Ok so the green baby blanket is finished. It turned out pretty well but it's not spectacular. My next baby project will be designing my own blanket pattern. I'll post pictures of that one instead because I suspect it'll be more interesting to look at online. Lately my knitting projects have been fuzzy scarves for my aunt. I'm making several for her but I thought that I might make a few extras and post them on here so if anyone was interested in buying one they could let me know. More on that in a couple of weeks.
As for the wedding, the favor boxes finally came in so I need to figure out the best/fastest/cheapest way to paint those. The inside goodies come later so I'm not even worrying about that now. I've decided I completely against the idea of a traditional ring bearer pillow so I'm making something special for that little guy to walk down the aisle with instead. One of my best friends, who's also one of my bridesmaids, made our amazing cake topper and I can't wait to see it in person instead of just pictures. Another good friend/bridesmaid makes illuminated scrolls for the SCA and has agreed to draw a fancy border on a scroll which will also have the wedding information in calligraphy (which she's getting another friend to do since he's more experienced and can do it really quickly apparently) and we'll have the guests sign that instead of a traditional guest book. Then we can get it framed and keep it out instead of tucked away in storage where no ever sees it again. What else...so many of the other wedding decorations are either provided by the site or haven't been decided on yet so I don't think I have any other DIY projects to share. The biggest thorn in my side right now is trying to find a decent, inexpensive seamstress who can tell me if my dress can be altered to wear with the baby bump. I'm trying to track one down while also desperately looking for a dress that can be a substitute at the same time. I'm starting to lose hope. I really really love my dress and want to be able to wear it but at the same time, I don't want to force it and end up emphasizing my situation more than I have to while also ruining the aesthetic of the dress itself. If it can't be done to still be flattering, I'll save it for a later date either as a vow renewal dress or to dye and wear to some other formal event. I know I could always try to sell it online to get my money back to use toward to other dress but I just can't seem to bring myself to do it, you know? Well, that's all the news for now. Still looking for work though I'm slowing down in that search with how much I already have on my plate. The baby is definitely growing and I'm pretty sure those strange, almost creepy sensations I'm having are it moving. Speaking of "it", I really need to come up with a cute nickname for him/her so s/he is not just "baby" or "it". More updates (hopefully with some pictures) to come.
